Georgette fabric

Are you looking for a soft, light and breathable fabric for your next collection projects?

Printed fabrics: the georgette fabric in Seride

We at Seride recommend that you consider georgette fabric, which is particularly well known for its soft and flowing texture.

Georgette fabric is made by composing a light and fine plain weave that creates the typical slightly wrinkled and undulating surface. It is precisely this plain weave that gives georgette fabric the characteristics for which it is particularly popular and which makes it one of the leading fabrics for fashionable garments.

This fabric is mainly made from silk fibres, thus taking the name silk georgette fabric, because silk combines so well with the soft texture and because it is a fibre that can reflect light with extreme delicacy. On other occasions, georgette fabric is made from viscose fibre.

3 reasons to choose georgette fabric

Georgette fabric has very special characteristics that make it the best choice for elegant and evening dresses, but also for summer collections and daywear.

The three main characteristics of georgette fabric are:

  • Transparency, conferred by the typical finish that makes it ideal for layers and overlays that do not weigh down the dress
  • Ruffle, present in very light doses, its typical ruffling makes the georgette fabric very soft to the touch and with a beautiful drape
  • Versatility, a characteristic that allows georgette to be used for a wide variety of fashionable clothing such as dresses, shirts or skirts

Did you know that georgette fabric...

Did you know that georgette fabric is named after the French tailor Georgette de la Plante who made it in the 1920s?

Georgette de la Plante was the French dressmaker and designer who invented this type of fabric, still considered one of the best. In fact, some of the most iconic dresses in fashion history are made of georgette fabric. Among many, the very famous white dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in the film ‘When the Wife is on Holiday” was made of georgette.

Yves Saint Laurent and Valentino also used this fabric several times in their collections.
